Skylight Vertical Shaft

The Story

A three-storey light shaft that turns an ordinary stairwell into an instrument for reading the sky.

An existing stair core was stripped to its shell and crowned with a single north-facing skylight. The walls are finished in hand-polished lime plaster, tuned to catch and diffuse the moving beam. Nothing hangs on these walls; the wall itself is the artwork, repainted daily by the weather.
